Moving Checklist
A step-by-step checklist that keeps your move organized and on schedule. Follow clear milestones so nothing important is forgotten before, during, or after moving day.

At Movher, we know that an organized move is a smoother move. Whether you’re preparing for a local relocation or transitioning to a new space across the region, having a clear plan makes all the difference. To support you every step of the way, we’ve created a comprehensive Moving Checklist that outlines what to do and when to do it. With thoughtful preparation and guidance from our team, your move can feel structured, efficient, and far less stressful.
Use this checklist to stay on track throughout the planning process and to make sure your home or business is ready when our movers arrive.
4–6 Weeks Before Moving Day
Begin Planning and Organizing
This is the perfect time to take inventory of your belongings and determine what you want to keep, donate, or remove. Decluttering early reduces the number of items we’ll need to move and helps you settle into your new space more easily.
Schedule Your Move With Us
Reach out to our team to reserve your moving date. Booking early ensures we can accommodate your schedule, especially during busy seasons or weekends.
Gather Packing Supplies
Start collecting boxes, tape, bubble wrap, markers, and protective materials. Packing at a comfortable pace keeps the process manageable and prevents last-minute stress.
Start Updating Your Address
Notify your bank, billing accounts, subscriptions, insurance providers, and utility companies about your upcoming change of address. Taking care of these updates early keeps everything running smoothly during your transition.
2–3 Weeks Before Moving Day
Pack Nonessential Items
Begin packing the items you won’t need on a daily basis—seasonal clothing, décor, books, and storage items. Clearly label each box with the room name and a brief description of the contents to help our movers place everything in the correct location.
Identify Specialty Items
If you have artwork, delicate pieces, antiques, or large furniture that requires additional care, let us know. We offer packing assistance and special handling to ensure these items are properly protected.
Prepare Your Appliances
Start prepping appliances if they’ll be part of your move. Freezers and refrigerators should be emptied and cleaned. Washers and dryers should be disconnected and dried. Completing this early prevents delays on moving day.
Confirm Access Points
If you live in an apartment or condo, check with building management about elevator reservations, loading zones, or parking requirements. Having these details ready allows our team to work efficiently.
1 Week Before Moving Day
Complete Most of Your Packing
Aim to have nearly everything packed by this point. Leave out only the essentials you’ll need in the days leading up to your move.
Prepare an Essentials Box
Set aside a box or bag containing the items you’ll need right away after arriving at your new home. This might include toiletries, daily medications, chargers, a few sets of clothing, snacks, and important documents.
Separate Valuables
Keep personal items such as jewelry, legal documents, sentimental items, and small valuables with you instead of placing them on the moving truck.
Review Move Details With Our Team
We’ll confirm your moving date, estimated arrival time, and any special instructions. Reviewing everything together helps us ensure a seamless experience.
The Day Before Moving Day
Disassemble Furniture (If You Prefer to Do It Yourself)
If you plan to handle disassembly on your own, take care of it the day before. Keep hardware in labeled bags so reassembly is quicker later.
Clear Walkways
Make sure hallways, entryways, staircases, and driveways are open and easy to navigate. This helps our movers move efficiently and safely.
Prepare Electronics and Cables
Pack up electronics and organize their cords in labeled bags. Taking photos of wiring setups can help you reconnect everything easily.
Relax and Get Rest
A good night’s sleep goes a long way. Moving day is productive and active, so rest helps you stay focused.
Moving Day
Be Ready When Our Team Arrives
Having everything packed, organized, and accessible allows us to get started right away. If you have special instructions or fragile items you want us to handle with extra care, let us know during the walkthrough.
Guide Us Through Your Home
A quick tour helps our team understand what’s going and where. Point out fragile boxes, items that need priority handling, or pieces that require special attention.
Do a Final Sweep
Check closets, drawers, cabinets, attic spaces, and storage areas to ensure nothing gets left behind.
Let Us Handle the Heavy Lifting
Once everything is ready to go, our crew will take care of loading, transporting, and unloading your belongings safely and efficiently.
After You Arrive at Your New Home
Direct Our Movers
Guide us as we place boxes and furniture in their designated rooms. This saves you time and energy during unpacking.
Inspect Items as They’re Unloaded
If something looks out of place or needs attention, let us know immediately so we can address it.
Start With Essential Areas
Unpack your essentials box first, then move on to bedrooms, bathrooms, and the kitchen.
